“A dream you dream alone is only a dream.

A dream you dream together is reality.”   Yoko Ono

World Peace

Will it ever happen? Is it even possible? I don’t have the answers, but I do know something. If there is any chance of peace throughout our world, we must stand united.

What venue could possibly reach all races in a language all can understand?

I say through Music.

No, I don’t think music alone can right all wrongs, or rectify impossible situations. I do however think, music is a universal language—maybe even…a beginning to an end.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of World Peace without the image of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in bed staging an act of nonviolent protest in support of peace back in 1969.

IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is an outdoor work of art conceived by Yoko Ono in

memory of John Lennon. It is situated on Viðey Island in Reykjavík, Iceland.

IMAGINE PEACE TOWER symbolizes Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for

world peace - which began in the sixties, was sealed by their marriage in 1969 and will

continue forever.

IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is composed of a tall shimmering tower of light that  will

appear every year and be visible from October 9th (John’s birthday) until

December 8th (the anniversary of his death)

In addition, the Tower will illuminate from Winter Solstice (December 21st – 28th),

on New Year’s Eve (December 31st) and the first week of spring (March 21st -28th).

It is lit from 2 hours after sunset until midnight, and until dawn on New Year’s Day.

No matter how many times I hear it, Lennon’s Imagine still gets me.

marciaNovember 4th, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Alice AudreyNovember 4th, 2009 at 8:27 pm

Back at you, Sister.

TracieNovember 4th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

I am loving all of these peace songs!! I will enjoy watching all of the videos over the next couple of days! For tonight, I will read all the TTs with “Imagine” running through my head.

Happy TT!

HeatherNovember 4th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

The Playing For Change video of “Stand By Me” is awesome. Saw that on the evening news a few months ago and was completely blown away. And you missed one of my favorites — “Peaceful World” by John Mellancamp. Happy TT!

Julia SmithNovember 4th, 2009 at 8:53 pm

Music is the way, Adelle!

Peace to you on this wonderful and magical day. Absolutely love the shots of the memorial tower of light.

JourneywomanNovember 4th, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Peace be unto you.

BumblesNovember 4th, 2009 at 9:27 pm

Wow Adelle – quite an inspiring post. I’m sure it took quite a while to think it out, find the clips and post the details. Thank you for taking that time – the message is clear. I love visiting Strawberry Fields – it is often packed with tourists (like me) gawking but the mood is overwhelmingly pensive while you are there.

KristenNovember 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm

Great list of songs. So many bring back great memories.

BettyNovember 4th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

I haven’t heard a lot of these songs, but some are really beautiful. =) Thanks for sharing.

Shelley MunroNovember 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am

This is an inspiring post, Adelle. I must get that Green Day song on Itunes. I really like it and now it’s in my head. 21 guns…

MsMenozziNovember 5th, 2009 at 3:31 am

A favorite theme of mine, though I’ve rarely blogged about it – and never so eloquently.

Very nice…

ChrisNovember 5th, 2009 at 4:39 am

Wow, I haven’t heard some of these songs in a long time. Some of them I don’t know. Looks like I’ll be searching for new stuff to add to my playlists. :D thanks.

BrendaNovember 5th, 2009 at 5:18 am

Great songs and great purpose. I’m with you. Let’s spread peace.

secret agent womanNovember 5th, 2009 at 5:36 am

You and I were drawn to the same quote this year. Peace to you and yours on this day.

Stephanie AdkinsNovember 5th, 2009 at 5:50 am

I still have my We Are The World record. LOL Great list, Adelle. Happy Thursday! *Hugs*

Susan Helene GottfriedNovember 5th, 2009 at 5:59 am

Peace, indeed. Amazing, isn’t it, how few songs there are protesting war/promoting peace anymore?

Inez KelleyNovember 5th, 2009 at 6:05 am

very cool and very soothing. I like the quote from ‘Amazing Grace and Chuck’… “Wouldn’t it be nice?”

Jennifer LeelandNovember 5th, 2009 at 7:41 am

Very, very cool. I love this. The new website is GORGEOUS too.

A. Catherine NoonNovember 5th, 2009 at 8:06 am

You really took a lot of time on this and it shows. I had no idea about the peace tower, that’s a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing and raising consciousness on this; it’s awe inspiring.

MichelleNovember 5th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

I love the song list. I’ve been enjoying every one. :-) It’s a really wonderful post and theme. Happy Peace wishes to you.

The tower was a really weird feeling – I have that idea in a book. It was written in 1992, but only published this year. So weird seeing a vision I had in my head made real. :-o

jenniferNovember 5th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

SO much work went into this post. It was very well done. And I agree that music does unite and inspire people.

PEACE

Great minds .. PEACE!

maryt/theteachNovember 5th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Adelle, words cannot say what a wonder your peace post is! Thank you for sharing all with us. I didn’t know about the Peace Tower in Iceland in memory of John Lennon… it’s an outstanding memorial! I wish you peace and love.

RennyBA's TerellaNovember 5th, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Great contribution and nice songs, pics and globe!

Thanks for visiting mine too :-)

TravisNovember 5th, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Agreed…music is universal. You’ve presented a great song list here. And I didn’t know about the Imagine Peace Tower, so thank you for presenting that.

Peace to you and yours.

CarlettaNovember 5th, 2009 at 4:55 pm

I can’t think of my youth without thinking of music and Lennon and the hope then for peace.
Music is a part of my everyday life. I share the thought that it is a universal language.
Loved your post!
Hope you have had a peaceful and joyful day.
Thanks for your visit to me on this special day.

colleenNovember 5th, 2009 at 6:14 pm

How about the Youngbloods Get Together. I love that song!

Elise LoganNovember 5th, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Cool list. I grew up in a home with a lot of Peter Paul and Mary, Creedence Clearwater, and so on. Dad was more Stones than Beatles, but Mom was a big Beatles fan. Between the two of them, I had the ’60s covered. lol.

FelicitasNovember 5th, 2009 at 8:18 pm

Your music list brings back a lot of memories… Love it! Peace be with you and your family.

Debra James PercivalNovember 5th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

What a wonderful post for Peace. Music heals!

miss shannonNovember 5th, 2009 at 10:33 pm

Thanks for the comment Adelle…. Music is the language of peace, thanks for all the great songs to check out :) . Will be doing that soon. Love the name too, if I’d had a daughter her name would have been Adele. But God, and his sense of humour, blessed me with 4 boys LOL! Peace & blessings!

Karen JoNovember 5th, 2009 at 11:49 pm

You wrote a really good post for this day of peace. Peace to you and yours.

CountryDewNovember 6th, 2009 at 4:13 am

That John Mayer song always makes me angry; it doesn’t seem so much about peace as about offering up reasons for doing nothing. Great TT, though. Thanks for visiting my blog.

nelsonNovember 6th, 2009 at 6:00 am

wow! such a nice post for peace! liked the listing!

nelsonNovember 6th, 2009 at 6:11 am

Amanda MooreNovember 8th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

This was such a great idea to put together you peace globe and your 13, most of these I grew up on but my fave is the Green Day song which is my daughters era, I guess the message of peace transcends time differences.

Mimi LenoxNovember 8th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
